Katmandu, April 29 (CNA) A 37-member group from Taiwan is ready to begin its post-quake relief mission in Nepal after arriving in Kathmandu early Wednesday morning.
The group consists of aid workers and medical professionals from Taiwan's Red Cross Soceity, International Search and Rescue Operations Taiwan, the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) and Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hosptial.
It will meet up with 13 medical workers from BLIA's branch in Malaysia and 50 Nepalese volunteers before starting its relief mission, said group leader Kuo Ming-chun (郭銘群).
The five tons of relief supplies the group was bringing with them were held back in Guangzhou because of logistical issues, but Kuo said the team will still proceed to disaster areas and open medical treatment stations and distribute aid.
According to foreign wire services reports, Nepal's Prime Minister Sushil Koirala expressed concerns that the death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that devastated his country on April 25 could climb to 10,000.
The Nepalese authorities have confirmed that at least 4,349 Nepalese lost their lives in the natural disaster, 8,700 people were injured, and hundreds remain unaccounted for. (By H.J. He and Flor Wang)
